Why Donate to the Salvation Army?

You've seen it before -- the Salvation Army red kettle at Christmas. Perhaps you've even thrown a few coins in the bucket. A tradition since 1891, the familiar red kettle at Christmas not only collects funds for seasonal assistance to individuals and families in need, but also enables The Salvation Army to operate year-round. However, as the kettles become more scarce, we must focus on other ways to raise funds to help those in need.

Did you know, for example, that your used car could be a driving force in the war on misery and poverty right here in Columbus? Here's how. If you have an operable car, truck, RV, motorcycle, boat and trailer or golf cart, donate it to The Salvation Army Auto Auction. Your donation is tax-deductible and the proceeds go directly to help support all our local programs in the Columbus area.

Identified by author and management expert Peter Drucker as "by far the most effective organization in the United States," The Salvation Army invests the charitable gifts it receives in the lives of men and women and boys and girls.

"No one even comes close to it in respect to clarity of mission, ability to innovate, measurable results, dedication and putting money to maximum use," Drucker said. (Forbes, August 11, 1997).

According to the Army's 2004 annual report, approximately 83 cents of each dollar spent by The Salvation Army is used to fund direct services for people. /p>
