Our Programs
The Salvation Army is committed to serving people, changing one life at a time. Our diverse ministries attract a wide variety of participants and supporters, from single parents needing help to dedicated volunteers seeking meaningful outlets for service to philanthropists and charitable foundations wanting to contribute to their community. Our extensive range
of programs and services includes:
-
Emergency Shelter
Provides housing, hot meals, and laundry facilities to those who are homeless or transient. We also provide encouragement and support to these guests. We support them in their search for a job, better living conditions, and a new life.
-
Thrift Store
Provides clothing, furniture, and household items sold at a reduced cost. Vouchers for free clothing are provided to qualifying social service clients. Other items are provided free of charge to lodge guests or to social service clients as deemed appropriate by our casework staff.
-
Caseworker Assistance
We provide food from our food pantry to those in need. We also provide assistance with rent, utilities, propane heat, and medication. This provides assistance to clients who would otherwise be evicted or have utilities disconnected.
-
Court Referrals
We provide the opportunity for citizens who have been charged with a misdemeanor crime to perform court mandated community service.
We provide encouragement, training, and positive role modeling. We also promote and model healthy values and a strong work ethic.
-
Christmas Assistance
We provide toys and food to needy families. We also sponsor an Angel Tree program designed to provide children with new winter clothing. We visit all nursing homes, personal care homes, the jail, the youth detention center, and the diversion center – visiting residents, presenting holiday music and programs, and providing them with a Christmas gift.
-
Character Building
We provide scouting programs for boys and Sunbeam and Girl Guard programs for girls. We also train community children in music (both vocal and instrumental), and provide kids the opportunity to go to a variety of summer camp programs at our camp facility in Jasper, Georgia. We strive to provide positive role modeling, build self-confidence, increase self-esteem, assist in the development of skills, enhance natural gifts or talents, and reach at-risk youth.
-
Disaster Services
The Salvation Army has a divisional disaster team with a host of dedicated resources. These are made immediately available when disaster strikes. Our disaster services include: the provision of crisis/pastoral counseling, warehousing, distribution, issuance of cash.
-
